The scripture reads in Revelation 6:10 And they cried with a loud voice, saying, How long O Lord, holy and true, dost thou not judge and avenge our blood on them that dwell on the earth? (Earth dwellers: Ones who do not live for Christ.)

I always wondered about God bringing vengeance when He made it clear through Christ that we are to love our enemies.  Then I came across a little-known meaning of the word vengeance.  There is a faulty translation of the Greek word “ekdikeo” as avenge – that is, retaliate with vengeance.  But the first and primary meaning of the word is “validate.”  In every language, words carry various shades of meaning; they do not generally mean just one thing in one way.  The greatest example I can think of is the word “come”.  Come has over 40 shades of meaning in the Greek language.  Perhaps this is why we got 2nd coming so messed up.

But I digress.  Many times the way a word is used in context best determines the meaning of the word.

Does Jesus who prayed at Calvary, “Father, forgive them, for they know not what they do,” now threaten retaliation against those who oppose and persecute us?  The very thought of it never settled in my heart.  It is Jesus Himself who taught us to love our enemies, bless them that hate us, and pray for them which persecute us.  That is the spirit and law of the Kingdom!  And now – shall those whose self-life has finally been completely slain within them by the very testimony of Jesus Christ, pray for Him to avenge their blood on them that dwell in the earth realm?

In this light, it should be clear to every spiritual mind that the Greek word “ekdikeo” must mean its primary meaning of VINDICATE in the above scripture.

The souls under the altar (in OT times, the slain animals were under the alter) are now those whose own life has been slain for His. Cross reference this with Rev. 3:9 “They will fall at your feet and admit that I have loved you.”  NOW, it fits in my heart.  In my thinking, I see this happening when others will see Christ and receive Him also.  Glory to God.
